NEW YORK – The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute is proud to announce that Joellen Gavin, a talented and respected development professional with extensive background in the field, is joining the Institute’s staff as Director of External Relations.

Gavin brings unusually strong skills, experiences and insights into her new role with the Adoption Institute. She has been highly successful working with major nonprofit organizations in the past, performing duties ranging from developing and managing public events, to building individual and corporate support, to preparing critical materials for senior management and governing boards.

“I’ve been fortunate to have a career that has been enriched by dedicated people and important causes,” said Gavin. “I feel well prepared for this position with the Adoption Institute, which does such vital work for children and families. I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to the organization and help it grow.”

Gavin’s previously worked as Director of Leadership Gifts at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she oversaw a staff of development professionals and coordinated leadership gift activities. Before moving to the MFA, Gavin served in several development positions at Harvard University, including Associate Director of Development for the American Repertory Theatre, Assistant Development Director of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Major Gifts Officer at the University Development Office for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Adam Pertman, the Adoption Institute’s Executive Director, said he was “purely delighted” by Gavin’s hiring. “I’ve always felt that the Institute’s vital work, in itself, would bring us the support we need. But now, with someone as talented as Joellen aboard,” he added, “I’m more optimistic than ever that we’ll rise to a higher level of support and, consequently, will have greater opportunities to further our mission.”
